Synopsis

A moving meditation on the life, death, and faith of Rachel Scott as seen through the eyes of her parents and in her own words.

The Columbine tragedy in April 1999 pierced the heart of our country. In December 1999, we learned that the teenage killers specifically targeted Rachel Scott and mocked her Christian faith on their chilling, homemade video tapes. Rachel Scott died for her faith. Now her parents talk about Rachel's life and how they have found meaning in their daughter's martyrdom in the aftermath of the school shooting. Rachel's Tears comes from a heartfelt need to celebrate this young girl's life, to work through the grief and the question of a nation, and to comfort those who have been touched by violence in our schools today. Using excerpts and drawings from Rachel's own journals, her parents offer a spiritual perspective on the Columbine tragedy and provide a vision of hope for preventing youth violence across the nation.

May 20, 2008: Rachel?s Tears is an uplifting story about a young girl who was killed in the Columbine shooting. Rachel Scott was a teenage girl who was very spiritual and had a strong faith in God. This story happened on April 20, 1999. It was a horrible tragedy that changed the lives of young teenagers forever. During the shooting the Columbine shooters targeted Rachel and mocked her because of her Christian faith. The shooters video taped Rachel while they were viciously making fun of her. In December 1999 Rachel?s parents found out about the tapes and learned how se was brutally teased. They loved their daughter dearly and they were filled with hatred and sorrow. Hating the fact that they took their daughter away from them, but filled with grief because they had lost someone they truly loved. I find this book very inspiring because it tells about the young girl?s life and her faith. My favorite part in this book would probably be the saddest but I really like it. In the book there is the part where Sandy and Darrell Scott get a call from their son. He tells them that he is ok but he is really scared because he can?t find Rachel anywhere. His parents were terrified because they didn?t know if they would ever see there daughter again. They went to the school and they were hoping they would see Rachel, but little did they know that their lives would change forever. Today Rachel?s parents published this book to remember Rachel for her strong belief in God and to show what kind of person she really was. They found her diary and decided to add it to the book to show the people that Rachel was a very strong and faithful young woman. I highly recommend this book for all readers. It?s a faith filled story about the struggle of a very loving family.
