Synopsis

RNotes is a quick, portable, and indispensable reference that will help your students quickly access information relating to basic nursing tasks and concepts. When they draw a blank on the information they need - like calculating common medication formulas, coagulation values, or remembering the normal ranges of vital signs - they will be able to refer to this guide, which can be neatly tucked inside their scrub pockets. It even has pages that can be written on and erased for further use.

Reviewer:Josie M. Bowman, DSN, RN (East Carolina University )
Description:This clinical pocket guide makes essential information available at the fingertips of practicing nurses and students. It provides data on the basics to bioterrorism, and tabs make the guide easy to use. The first edition was published in 2003 and the second edition in 2006.
Purpose:The intent is evident from the nature of the guide, which includes many topics that healthcare professionals need to provide quality care.
Audience:The guide can be used by student nurses and practicing nurses with various levels of experience. Since most of the book covers basic nursing care, it can be used with all clients.
Features:The book starts with a section on basic care which includes standard precautions, use of restraints, when clients need oxygen and delivery systems used. Another section covers a complete health assessment from head to toe by systems. Disease processes are covered by defining the process, the incidence, onset, etiology and clinical findings. With each diagnosis, the author covers the nursing focus and patient teaching. A section covers obstetrics/pediatrics/geriatrics and clients with emergency and trauma needs. The book is small enough to fit in a lab coat pocket, is waterproof, and has pages the user can write on and wipe off.
Assessment:I would recommend this clinical pocket guide to healthcare professionals. It provides useful information or a quick review without a need for other sources.

April 09, 2009: I think this product is great for nursing students doing their hospital rotations. It contains normal lab values for making decisions about patient care. Also, contains information on some common medical diagnoses and IV/meds. I really liked the basic physical assessment section which is great for cues for beginners. The information is quite useful for even first term nursing students. The only thing that is missing is the nursing diagnoses. This is the most comprehensive of the Davis's notes for everything a nursing student needs to survive the first two years.

I Also Recommend: Nursing Diagnosis Handbook, Medical-Surgical Nursing 2-Volume Set.
