Reviewer:Thomas L. Pazdernik, PhD (University of Kansas Medical Center)
Description:This workbook is designed as a companion to Principles of Pharmacology: The Pathophysiologic Basis of Drug Therapy, 2nd edition, Golan et al. (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2008) . Cases and questions enhance and reinforce learning and make this source a more valuable tool for those who are preparing for course or certification examinations.
Purpose:It is designed to enhance and reinforce learning of pharmacology with the parent textbook. It makes this book much more valuable for students preparing for course or certification examinations.
Audience:This workbook will be of use to individuals in training or practice in the fields of pharmacy, medicine, nursing, or allied health disciplines that are using the textbook as their major text for drug information.
Features:Each chapter starts with well written learning objectives and then contains the same patient case in the corresponding chapter in the textbook, plus one or two additional cases. There are also 4 or 5 multiple choice questions per case, with answers and explanations for each case at the end of each section. Key illustrative figures from the textbook are included to enhance understanding. One criticism of the questions is that they do not conform to USMLE style and format. The workbook includes more than 100 cases and 400 questions.
Assessment:This workbook makes the main textbook more competitive amongst the leading texts used by medical, pharmacy, and other health professionals for course and exam certification preparation.
