      Synopsis

Princess Smartypants doesn't want to get married; she'd rather live with herpets. Commanded by her parents to find herself a husband, the Princess sets tasks for her horde of suitors. . . . All of the potential husbands fail miserably as the gleeful Princess looks on—until Prince Swashbuckle appears. . . . Comical watercolors in softly glowing colors. . . . A new slant on the traditional fairy tale princess. . . . A refreshing alternative.
      (School Library Journal)

Cole's characteristic wacky humor sparks this fable about a contemporary princess who . . . finds an ingenious method for retaining her single status. (Publishers Weekly)

Author Biography: Babette Cole lives in England. She has written and illustrated numerous witty, wacky picture books, and Princess Smartypants is one of her best-loved characters.

      Annotation

Not wishing to marry any of her royal suitors, Princess Smartypants devises difficult tasks at which they all fail, until the multitalented Prince Swashbuckle appears.

      Publishers Weekly

In both text and art, Cole's characteristic wacky humor sparks this fable about a contemporary princess who ``enjoyed being a Ms.'' and finds an ingenious method for retaining her single status. Ages 4-8. (June)

August 08, 2003: Little girls love Princess Smartypants -- and why not? She's funny, smart, independent, and has a sweet pony. A great balance for your little princess' storybook collection. Zany-fun illustrations, too.
