June 21, 2008: This book is essential for the average user of Peachtree Complete, and a quick basic reference for the accountants out there. The manual received with Peachtree Complete software, is poorly written and far from complete. The program (recommended by our accountant), is very difficult to understand, especially for those not formally educated in accounting. We were using a DOS based, outdated product, DacEasy, and loved it, had a huge detailed manual that taught me all about double entry accounting. The DOS computer became unrepairable, thus the need for new software that was Windows compatable. Peachtree assumes you are or think like an accountant. You can be driven crazy 'or at least develop a serious inferiority complex' trying to understand the program, set up the chart of accounts, check your balances, etc. The company's telephone assistance is NOT the best nor the most helpful, only a few of the people there seem to really understand the installation, set up issues and data entry needs of specialized businesses. Most seem unable to communicate with the less sophisticated bookkeepers among the small business owners. Thank you for 'Peachtree for Dummies.' It is of tremendous assistance, MUCH more so than our accountant, the software's manual, on-line support and telephone support, combined. We will have to purchase at least one more comprehensive title for full support for the program details, this title would have to be several hundred more pages, cost more, to be truly adequate and a 5 star book. It IS worth 4.5 Stars to my thinking.
