Eliakum Reinert

This sixth edition of a well-known textbook covers the clinical art and scientific bases of endodontics. It also provides extensive information on special endodontic-related topics, mainly clinical but including legal. The aims of this extensive book are: (1) to provide comprehensive and practical discussions and descriptions of what is currently known and practiced by accomplished endodontic clinicians and (2) to introduce those new technologies and theoretical developments in science, medicine, and dentistry that will define the future of excellence in the practice of endodontics. The book largely meets its overall, high standard, important objectives. This book is targeted especially for clinicians, both those experienced and in training. The authors and contributors are recognized experts in their specialties. The book is illustrated primarily by a vast amount of high-quality black-and-white photographs, charts, and tables. Each chapter has an updated, practical, and voluminous list of pertinent references, and the index is useful. The text should be attractive to the serious practitioner, teacher, student, and specialist. At the end of each chapter is a self-assessment quiz. An effort was made to make the questions, clear, relevant, and accurate. This is a practical and serious tool for schools, clinics, and libraries. The book demands some worthwhile effort when used. The authors tried and succeeded in providing a text that would be able to answer almost any question. The new edition is justified whenever updated information is needed.

July 23, 2001: This endodontics is of old knowledge and with only 20% of success. Anatomy is modest, types and sizes of apex are not presented, diagnostics is insufficient, medicaments are static and do not move towards infection. There is no statistical evidence of success. As infectious nests are created in jaw bones, a lot of harm is being done to the patients. There is an extended critics on this issue. Endodontics has been replaced by a new and much more efficient science - APEXOLOGY (described in many papers presented at congresses), with detailed anatomy of tooth apex and accurate diagnostics as well as high rate (80%) of successfull therapy. Typologies complement the knowledge and ease memorising. Medicaments move and are successful in a reaching infections and bacteria. New channel instruments have been presented as well as clear guidance on fillings, typology of granuloma, metrics of apex, aasy new surgical method - apicostomy, etc. Whole material (4 books, 2500 pages) on apexology is ready for publishing and will be available as soon an publisher is selected.
