It is published in the Essentials in Cytopathology book series and fulfills the need for an easy-to-use and authoritative synopsis of site specific topics in cytopathology. Description: This book provides useful practical guidelines on pancreatic cytopathology with an emphasis on diagnostic cytologic features and differential diagnoses.
Purpose: The authors' objective of "fulfilling the need for an easy-to-use and authoritative synopsis of pancreas cytopathology" is well met.
Audience: This pocket-sized book is ideal for a quick reference for residents, cytopathology fellows, cytotechnologists and practicing pathologists who deal with pancreatic cytology.
Features: The first two of the book's 12 chapters provide an introduction and a pragmatic approach to pancreatic cytopathology. A general approach to solid and cystic lesions of pancreas is introduced and supplemented by useful algorithms and tables. The next two chapters are devoted to the diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and ancillary testing for the diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The remaining eight chapters cover individual pancreatic lesions including acinar cell carcinoma, pancreatoblastoma, solid-pseudopapillary neoplasm, pancreatic endocrine tumors, etc. Each chapter is copiously illustrated with high quality color images and succinct figure legends. Diagnostic cytologic features and differential diagnoses are listed in tables with bullet points.
Assessment: This stands out from other cytology books and quickly becomes one of the favorites of my cytology fellows owing to its small size and focused approach. I highly recommend this book to residents, cytopathology fellows, and practicing cytopathologists.
