Synopsis

Providing a wide-ranging overview of developmental anomalies, disorders and intersex conditions, this textbook presents the best possible advice and practical recommendations concerning medical intervention. With its multidisciplinary approach to health care, the book will be recommended reading for specialists in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, reproductive endocrinologists, paediatric and plastic surgeons, and clinical geneticists.

Reviewer: Henrynne Louden, MD(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: "This comprehensive book of pediatric and adolescent gynecology includes excellent sections on embryology and gynecologic surgery. "
Purpose: This is a contemporary overview aimed at all healthcare professionals who may have to participate in the care of patients with anomalous sexual development and all aspects of gynecologic, reproductive, and sexual health. The objectives are worthy, but readers must understand this is just an overview. The issues surrounding the psychosocial development and sexual assignment of patients with anomalous sexual development are far more complex and dynamic than can be adequately addressed in this type of book. The author meets the objectives.
Audience: This book is written for students, residents, and primarily gynecologists.
Features: It serves best as a surgically oriented textbook with a focus on ambiguous genitalia.
Assessment: This is a surgical reference and review, primarily for the gynecologic resident and practitioner. The anatomic illustrations will be most helpful to students and residents.
