August 01, 2009: As a clinician providing individual and group psychotherapy for adults who were abused as children, I have found this book to be a very valuable tool in treating abuse survivors. This book contains no psychological jargon. It is easy to read and discuss with clients, many of whom have stated that this book validates their experiences as abuse survivors as they work toward healing from child abuse. I highly recommend this book for lay persons to read on their own and/or while in treatment for issues affected by physical, emotional, and sexual abuse experienced during childhood.

March 09, 2004: As someone who has been in and out of therapy for years dealing with my childhood this was nothing new to me. Highlighting the pertinent parts for my husband to read, and the section on how to better deal with someone like me DID help. I have a much younger brother also who has had a hard time with coping with and admitting to himself much of this, so I think getting him to read this will be beneficial because it is a good OVERVIEW, as well as a quick and easy read. There are many types of abuse and many other books that cover them in more depth - but you have to start somewhere!
