    Annotation

    The book contains black-and-white illustrations.

    Rodrigue G. Barakat

This is the seventh volume of a series entitled Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. This book is strictly a discussion of the surgical aspect of reconstructive and implant surgery. The purpose is to discuss the principles of soft and osseous tissue surgical management as well as implantology. The content is directed towards oral and maxillofacial surgeons and residents. The 498-page volume contains a thorough description of procedures for reconstruction of the maxilla and mandible. Contributors discuss the full scope of soft tissue and bone reconstruction procedures as well as the implantology aspect. Out of the four sections of this book, the last section has nice chapters about reconstruction of the maxillofacial cancer patient, implant retained facial prosthesis, and reconstruction of developmental deformities. For each chapter in this book, the text is well complemented by a series of pictures and diagrams coming from different sources. The text includes pre-operative, operative, and post-operative considerations. This book is an excellent compilation of reconstructive surgery and implantology. It is very well written, and strongly supported by quality images that make understanding much easier. Although it is only 498 pages the text is concise enough to contain all the pertinent data of the different subjects discussed. There are more complete books on this subject published previously, but considering that this one is part of a collection of seven books in which all aspects of oral surgery are discussed, I think the purpose is served very well. The editors are well known oral surgeons, recognized in the field, and they used the help of many competent authorities for the completionmost chapters. The final product is a great reference. It will be very useful for the practicing oral surgeon and especially for residents in the field.
