Synopsis

Jean Ferris overturns fairy tale clichés in an offbeat, hilariously quirky novel that's part comedy, part love story, and part everything-but-the-kitchen-sink.

Annotation

A young man with a mysterious past and a penchant for inventing things leaves the troll who raised him, meets an unhappy princess he has loved from afar, and discovers a plot against her and her father.

Publishers Weekly

A boy raised by a troll decides to see the world one day and discovers that lovely Princess Marigold, with whom he has corresponded, is about to become betrothed. "The author breathes new life into archetypal characters by adding unexpected and often humorous dimensions to their personalities," wrote PW. Ages 10-up. Once upon a marigoldby Bree10

November 10, 2008: I guess I've read better books, but this one was okay. I mean it's a very good love story plot, but the overall plot was pretty lame. I began reading the second book, and it didn't draw me in at all. Once upon a marigold was acceptable, though. The seris won't survive, I don't believe. But still, the first book is very very good. I recommend it to people who have read any love story of any kind, cheesy or good, because this one is near to in between.

September 18, 2008: This is the best book ever. Not only does it take a twist on 'Once upon a time...', it also weaves in humor, romance, and that fairytale-like mood we all know and love. That...and it's 'part-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink'!
