      Synopsis

"The most shocking fiction I have read in years. What is shocking about it is both the idea and the sheer imaginative brilliance with which Mr. Shute brings it off."
      THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
They are the last generation, the innocent victims of an accidental war, living out their last days, making do with what they have, hoping for a miracle. As the deadly rain moves ever closer, the world as we know it winds toward an inevitable end....

      From the Paperback edition.

      Annotation

This is the classic tale of post-nuclear existence that was made into a stunning film of the 1960's.

November 27, 2006: This book is truly amazing book to read. The author really describes each character and what they are like. He also lets you know what is going on in the story, but you have to figure it out yourself. I would reccomend anyone to go out and read this book.
