She received her Ed.S. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Instructional and Curricular Studies, her M.A. from Eastern Michigan University and her B.A. from the University of Michigan. She has been a teacher in inner city schools as well as urban and rural settings. She also served as a curriculum specialist in social studies. Her areas of interest include beginning teacher support, social studies education, and supporting English language learners in the classroom.
