    Synopsis

The tragic story of the complex bond between two migrant laborers in Central California. They are George Milton and Lennie Small, itinerant ranch hands who dream of one day owning a small farm. George acts as a father figure to Lennie, who is a very large, simpleminded man, calming him and helping to reign in his immense physical strength.

Gary Sinise's reading of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men is nothing short of magnificent. Moving effortlessly from an eloquent, understated narrative voice to each character’s quite particular presence, Sinise demonstrates a true command of the medium. At times, Sinise is so convincing that one is hard-pressed to believe that a single reader could be responsible for so many varied characterizations. Thanks to such a skilled reading, this audio edition captures every nuance of Steinbeck’s austere prose and the full power of the novel's tragic denouement. Top to bottom, it's a masterful retelling of an American classic. R.W.B. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine

    Biography

Chronicling American dreams destroyed by either injustice or the simple difficulty of the world, John Steinbeck left lasting testaments to the struggles of working people in The Grapes of Wrath and Cannery Row. His refusal to water down his realistic work got some of his books banned – and earned him a Nobel Prize.

November 21, 2008: I read a book in high school for my english teacher entitled Of Mice and Men by John Stein beck. It was a good book and had a good meaning to it.I liked this book because it was funny and had a lot of emotion in it. It had some cursing in it that i did not like, but thet book was very interesting and it was not a very long book either. The meaning of this book really catch my attention, to never give up until you reach your dream. I could not put the book down until it was finished. we also had to answer some questions for the book and rereading did not bother me. It had some feeling you just wanted to know what happend next. Lenny even though it was mentally challenged he had a dream to live life and not have worry about what your going to eat, and staying out of trouble. George the other character would keep an eye out for Lenny. I really liked this book. Even though life was hard for them, they achieved what they wanted. This kind of book is onethat people should read if they need encouragement in life.

February 14, 2007: I really recommend reading this book. It is about two men Lennie Small and George Milton. The story is based many years ago when all you had was a work card and you traveled from town to town looking for work. Many things go wrong with two, because lennie has a mental handycap and seems to get himself into plenty of trouble. Lets just say he likes to pet soft things. Thats all I can say about this book. You will have two read it to learn the rest.
