March 05, 2009: This rare gem of a book is a shot of pure truth right between the eyes. It's not for the faint of heart! And it may be meaningless to Zen readers who don't practice zazen. Some familiarity with the insights of Zen practice would probably be helpful in order to recognize the depth of this teaching. 'Nothing Special' feels like a fresh spring breeze clearing the sludge from my everyday experience. Truth is hard! But when you're really ready, nothing else will do, and Joko Beck will provide plenty of wise and compassionate help along the way.
