Some of the topics covered include love, lost and found, joys and sorrows of child rearing, our connections with God and our environment, simple everyday joys, perseverance, regret, alcoholism, dementia, child abuse and suicide, various relationships, and finding our place in the world. Each of these topics is treated with dignity and emotional and intellectual insight.
While the author's approach to perspective is intentionally innocent, the result is a clear and simple message associated with each piece that makes the work easy for the teen or young adult to access. While the material is geared for teens to adults, there's something here for everyone, from the school child to the elderly, with a passionate understanding of what these common experiences bring to thesoul.
Particularly noteworthy pieces of masterful storytelling that will be reread over and over are: Head Down Into The Wind; Tomorrow Is Another Day; Trite And True; Mommy, Please Mommy; Garden In A Bottle; Sailing Blindly Into The Storm; Lime Kiln Transformation; Numerology; and The Man Behind The Mask.
A decidedly beautiful and unique volume of poetry that is a celebration of human experience that gently reminds us where to find the real 'heart' in life!

February 26, 2009: An emotional journey that will take you from tears to laughter - joy to sorrow. It's hard to believe that a book of thirty three poems could be filled with such a wide range of topics; each infused with insight and reverence for the topic. Two poems, The Chocolaty Candy Sale Snake and Tomorrow's Another Day, actually made me laugh out loud. Three others, Counting Blessings, The Man Behind the Mask, and Mommy Please, Mommy, literally brought me to tears. Though many of the topics being treated in this work are about sad situations, there is an undercurrent of hope and perseverance that carries throughout. Masterfully crafted, this volume is testament to the fact that in this day and age of agendas and sophomoric pap, there are still poets out there who can capture our hearts and attention with works of grace and intelligence with which we can all empathize. You may change your priorities after reading this. A 'must have' book for your personal library.

I received this book as a gift, and after reading it, lent it to a number of friends. Though I read a lot of poetry, none of my other friends do, so it was a surprise to discover how much they liked it as well. Everyone seems to have the same reaction, though each of us had different favorites among the works. I've never written a review before, but thought this work merited attention.
As a writer, myself, I know how difficult it is to publish a book of poetry; harder still to sell it. This is a new author with a great deal of promise. While there were several poems I didn't connect with, the vast majority of them resonated strongly with me. I laughed; I cried; and I examined my own soul. When a book causes you to move to both extremes and then look at yourself, it accomplishes everything an author dreams of. In other words, it strikes such a strong chord with the reader that you can't walk away after reading it without somehow being changed. In the Forward of the book, he asserts,"Good writing is putting people in situations in which they cannot escape without a changed heart." If this is the definition of good writing, this author has mastered the craft.
Each poem is a story - a vignette with a strong and clear message. I read in an interview that the work was intended for teens and young adults - but as a middle-aged female, I have to say it was one of the most intriguing and satisfying pieces I have read in years. If we are talking just about poetry-it's the best work I've read since I was in school. You will be hearing a lot about this author in months and years to come. This is a first rate first effort, and I hope to read a lot more from this author in the coming years. Don't wait to jump on the bandwagon after he becomes famous. Pick up a copy for yourself and be the next one to write a glowing review of his work after the introspective journey he takes you on. Good writers need good promotion - especially poets, because publishers just don't put any money into promoting their work. Short, sweet and to the point. I loved it, and you will too!
This is definitely one for your personal library, since you'll be going back and rereading your favorite poems for years to come.
