Synopsis

The Spiderwick Chronicles leave the old-fashioned charm of New England far behind and head south for some fiendish faerie fun in the hot Florida sun. Eleven-year-old Nicholas Vargas only thinks his life has been turned upside down after his developer father remarries and moves his new wife and daughter into the soon-to-be completed Mangrove Hollow.

But an "expedition" to a nearby lake turns up a little nixie with a giant problem - the huge, lumbering, fire-breathing variety - and it's up to Nick; his stepsister, Laurie; and his big brother, Julian (plus a familiar face from the original Spiderwick Chronicles) to figure out the best way to stop a host of rampaging giants before all of Florida goes up in smoke.

Biography

Holly Black spent her early years in a decaying Victorian mansion where her mother fed her a steady diet of ghost stories and books about faeries. Her first book, Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, was an ALA Top Ten Book for Teens, received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews, and has been translated into twelve languages. Her second teen novel, Valiant, was an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, a Locus Magazine Recommended Read, and a recipient of the Andre Norton Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. She lives in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Tony DiTerlizzi is the author and illustrator of Jimmy Zangwow's Out-of-This-World Moon-Pie Adventure as well as the Zena Sutherland Award-winning Ted. In 2003 his brilliantly cinematic version of Mary Howitt's classic, The Spider and the Fly, received stellar reviews, earned Tony his second Zena Sutherland Award, and was honored as a Caldecott Honor Book. His most recent picture book is G Is for One Gzonk! He and his wife, Angela, reside with their pug, Goblin, in Amherst, Massachusetts. They have no sprites. They know better.

October 09, 2008: The Nixies Song From fun to fairies in Florida. Nicholas Vargas wanted to have fun. He got more than he bargained for. Kids in middle school would enjoy this book. These kids have to save Florida, and maybe even the whole world. Nicholas hates having to share a room, because of his new step sister. But later he starts to enjoy having a step sister. The kids in this book are 11 and 12 years old. That?s why this would be a good book for students who go to middle school. They can understand their feelings and their pressure.

This was...surprisingly good!by Anonymous

August 31, 2008: When I saw that this book wasn't exactly about the Grace children, I immediately thought it wasn't going to be that good (considering how I don't like the Sandlot 2 and the sequels to the Bring It On! movie). But this book was really good! I'm kinda disappointed that there will only be three books...but I can't wait for the next one!
