    Synopsis

On a bright September morning in 1939, two days after Britain declares war on Germany, a group of privileged but desperate people gather in Southhampton to board the largest, most luxurious airliner ever built - the Pan American Clipper - bound for New York.

The passengers include a fascist English aristocrat fleeing with his family and a fortune in jewels; a German scientist escaping from the Nazis; a murderer under FBI escort; a beautiful young woman heading for a new life; and a handsome, charming, unscrupulous thief.

They will be in the air for thirty hours, soothed by the carpeted lounges, the curtained beds, the gourmet dining room, and the endless champagne. But once inside the flying palace there is no escape. Over the Atlantic, the Clipper's passengers are gripped by mounting fear and tension as their journey reaches the point of no return.

    Annotation

    Biography

Known around the world for his string of smash-hit spy thrillers touched off by 1978’s Eye of the Needle, Ken Follett’s taut tales -- spiked with more than a dash of sex appeal -- have earned this author (and sometime blues guitarist) a reputation as a master of international intrigue.

July 08, 2008: At the beginning of WWII the PanAmerican Clipper made its debute. Not knowing much about it I enjoyed the boat for its information. The plot of such an interesting story belonged of a ship. So many interesting characters in a confined space was unique. The characters were colorful and each had his own story to tell. The ship provided an excellent place for the people to mix and mingle. As the tale of mystery proceeds their lives become more entangled then they know. The youth and beauty of Margaret and the mishievous Harry add the humor to a dark, bleak and confusing plot.Sometimes the author wrote as if he was in a swirl of tangles and the story mline became boring. His literary skill did hold the novel together and I enjoyed it.

March 22, 2006: This is the kind of book that you hate to have to put down. All the elements of a good read are present. Not to mention the majority of the action takes place on a Pan Am Clipper! It doesn't get better than that.
