      Synopsis

The population of Black River, which has been selected as a testing ground for a deadly drug, is in the grip of an epidemic which drives its victims to perform frightening acts.

      Biography

Amazingly prolific and relentlessly suspenseful, Dean Koontz can be counted on for chilling, sometimes gory stories that occasionally overlap genres. His novels can jump from straightforward crime to sci-fi to horror, but the one thing he's consistent about is delivering nail-biting yarns that have kept fans reading for more than three decades.

April 06, 2009: I really enjoyed this creepy story. It definitely shows how too much power can corrupt people. The story takes place in a small town where a few scientists use subliminal messaging and mind control to manipulate the population. And the really creepy part is that this small town conspiracy is just a field test. These power hungry men have bigger plans. But they didn't plan for everything and soon things start to fall apart. This is a typical Koontz book and a fast paced read.

April 05, 2009: From start to finish you are deeply involved in the story. This is definitely not a book for kids, because of the "darkness" and corruption in people, and because of very descriptive sexual moments that digs in deeper into the mind of a man corrupted by power.
