Description:This book contains a much needed supply of board style questions to promote active learning. The questions and discussions cover the subject of neurology in vast breadth and depth.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide a review book in question and answer format for studying for the neurology boards. There are few books like this at this level in neurology other than the MEPC series. The book adequately meets the author's objectives.
Audience:The book is written for senior residents and fellows studying for certification and likely will also be helpful for practitioners reviewing for re-certification. The author is an assistant professor of neurology and a credible authority in the subject matter.
Features:The book covers the major topics outlined as the primary subject matter of the neurology board certification exam. The information is covered in both the questions and the answers in sufficient depth that an accompanying textbook is not necessary for further explanation. The glossary is a wonderful addition to any review book. There are color plates of all of the black and white photos which is most appropriate for the neuropathology review section. The low resolution of some of the color plates is unfortunate. I was pleased with the low number of typographical errors in a first edition.
Assessment:The book is a great alternative approach to studying neurology that is more interactive than reading or reviewing outlines and charts. It had fewer typographical, factual errors, and outdated material thannoticed in the only alternative neurology board review book available: MEPC Neurology: Specialty Board Review.
