QUOTES:
"A truly exceptional--account of his time in the Balkans and Chechnya--. I read [Loyd's] story of war and addiction (to conflict and to heroin) with a sense of gratitude for the honesty and courage on every page." --Independent
"I have nowhere read a more vivid account of frontline fear and survival." --The Times
"Magnificent--a stench of blood, excrement, mortar-fire, slivovitz and human bestiality emanates from these pages." --Literary Review

January 03, 2004: From a veteran's point of view, Anthony Loyd's description of the horror and total waste in modern combat is unsurpassed. This is not a romantic summary of war. If you prefer exciting tales of 'battlefield glory,' listen to the readers who gave this book a bad review.

November 24, 2002: I thought the book was very good. It presented a different view point on the war. It also gave a lot of details and was very clear in what was happening. I recommend this book to any war or history buff.
