PreS-Gr 2-This brightly illustrated, interactive collection includes 25 key stories from both the Old and New Testaments. Beginning with the creation and the Garden of Eden, the first portion of the book features Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jonah and Daniel, among others. The New Testament covers the birth of Jesus, his teachings and parables, and his final trip to Jerusalem, concluding with the Easter story. The final page is devoted to the Lord's Prayer. Each selection is written in clear, concise prose and is accompanied by colorfully appealing paintings executed in soft, natural tones. The illustrations gracefully fill each page and further illuminate the messages contained within the text. Engaging questions such as "How many animals can you name?" in the creation story or "Can you find these things on the table?" in the account of the Last Supper are set apart in large print and prompt youngsters to interact with the stories. Each selection is also supplemented by appropriate references to scripture. This title is a fine introduction to the more comprehensive Children's Everyday Bible (DK, 2002) and may be paired with Lois Rock's My Very First Prayers (Good Bks, 2003).-Linda L.
