In My Grandmother Showed Me the Stars, award-winning watercolor artist Becky Kelly celebrates the special bond between grandmothers and grandchildren. Her ethereal illustrations combine with heartfelt words of appreciation for Grandmother's humor, kindness, and wisdom. Our parents may give us the sun and the moon, but it's our grandmothers who show us the starsand no star shines brighter than a grandmother. With fine details such as scalloped flaps and touches of glitter, My Grandmother Showed Me the Stars is a beautiful, all-occasion gift for grandmothers everywhere.
In this paean to grandmothers, a young girl recounts what she learned from her grandmother. "When I first held my grandmother's hand. I learned that love does not come from one source alone." Together they share quality time, and from her grandmother she learns trust, tenderness, and wisdom. As the young girl grows older she still loves the time spent with her grandmotherthey play hearts, take walks and enjoy quiet time together reading stories, laughing, and listening to grandmother tell about her own childhood. The illustrations are soft pastel colors and have a real sweetness to them. The book will have as much appeal to grandmothers as their grandchildrenparticularly girls. It is also the perfect book for a daughter to give her mother to announce the upcoming arrival of a grandchild or to celebrate the experiences shared or to be shared with a grandchild.

November 09, 2009: There's 's a very special connection between grandparents and their grandchildren, and that bond is warmly celebrated in MY GRANDMOTHER SHOWED ME THE STARS illustrated by Becky Kelly.
Remembering her youth in West Virginia Kelly has created a plethora of beautifully decorated products in addition to gift books. You'll find her artwork on greeting cards, calendars, journals, baby clothes, and more. Kelly's paintings are soft pastels reminiscent of peaceful, happy times, often with nature as a focus. Each painting in this small volume is accompanied by a brief text by Patrick Regan reminding us of the many things we've learned from our grandmothers, such as "My grandmother showed me that wisdom comes with age," and "She had the best clothes for playing dress-up." My favorite is "And she taught me that each generation casts lingering light on those who follow." Any grandmother would be pleased to receive this gift as a reminder of a grandchild's love and appreciation. - Gail Cooke
