    Synopsis

    Sylvie O'Rourke, The Sound of Music devotee and born procrastinator, is about to die. Well, she thinks she is, anyway, and so attempts a last-ditch bargain with God for her life. "You guys are my witnesses," she tells her sisters somewhere over Connecticut. "If we get out of this plane alive, I promise to do something good with my life." Back on firm ground, Kate and Meg won't let their sister forget her promise, and with their years of practice hitting just the right chords of guilt ("What kind of person lies to God?" Meg wants to know), Sylvie finally caves. A teaching position at the broken-down St. Matthew's High School appears to be Sylvie's perfect opportunity to do some good, though her irreverent style gets her called down to the principal more often than her students. Can Sylvie keep her promise and make it through the year, dignity and sanity intact?

    November 21, 2008: I just finished "Must've Done Something Good". Cheryl Cory's first novel really is a success - it is on top of my favourite-books list!

    It is a lovely story about Sylvie O'Rourke, a modern Elizabeth Bennet, who stands up for her opinion and her friends, who is on her way to find a place in the world and who wants to do something good.

    Right from the start you take Sylvie to your heart - with all her human and so personable manners. You follow Sylvie through her first year on St Matthew's high school and I'm sure a lot of young people know how cruel students can be and how difficult it is for a new teacher to become accepted.
    Also a new man steps into Sylive's live, well actually there are two men...

    "Must've Done Something Good" is a story for the heart. A novel with great dialogues and likable characters. I like the style of writing - it really is a pageturner!
    Cheryl Cory's novel contains a lot of allusions to other great stories and films like Austen's Pride and Prejudice, The Sound of Music and even a little bit of Muppet Show you can find :)

    Read it and you will know why I LOVE it!

    September 24, 2008: As a fellow procrastinator, I immediately found an instant affinty for Sylvie and could definitely see her as one of my close girls cause she is funny, witty, and says the things I would love to say . . . This book had me laughing outloud and honestly, how many books can get that from you? It was a read hard to put down because you want to know what Sylvie does next or what happens. Not only do you want to know about Sylvie, but all the characters she meets. Cheryl Cory has done a wonderful job at building each character and one can easily see a neighbor or a friend in this book. Bravo job! Well done! I hope to read the next soon.
