It's a pleasant day, so Mr. Gumpy decides to go for a boat ride. Each barnyard animal begs to join him, and Mr. Gumpy agrees-as long as each behaves! Two children join the fun, and as soon as the boat is launched, everyone does exactly what Mr. Gumpy asked them not to do. The result? Splash! This tale fits right into the toddler's sense of humor.
Mr. Gumpy lives by a river. One day he takes a boat ride. "Mr. Gumpy's little scow becomes a miniature ark when he takes two children and one each of various domestic animals for a ride."--Kirkus Review. Full color. A School Library Journal Best of the Best, ALA Notable Book, New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year, Boston Globe/Horn Book Award, Kate Greenaway Medal.
Despite Mr. Gumpy's warnings to the multitudinous animals and children on his barge, the outing turns soggy when the boat capsizes. Ages 2-6. (Mar.)

October 28, 2003: Plus: I like to see the boat tipped. It was funny. Minus: It did not have a lot of full stops. Interesting: Too many animal in the boat, I didn't see the boat tipped until they all get a lot of noise.

October 27, 2003: I think the pictures are funny and the words are intersting. The book is too easy and short. I like easy chapter books and in SSIS we are fabulous readers. I think the endings and settings are the same as 'Mr Gumpy's Motor Car'. The animals in 'Mr Gumpy's Outing' don't listen to him as well as the children.
