July 23, 2008: I am a long time breeder, trainer, and show the Anatolian shepherd dog. These are very large powerful independent thinking dogs. If an owner does not train with good boundaries in a fair and positive manner. There is a chance that one may end up with a major problem as that cute bundle of fur just knocked down someone wanting to say hello. There is nothing so cute when the dog is full grown weighing in at over 150 pounds, and can make an owner who was not paying attention end up becoming nothing more then a pull toy as they take off running at speeds of over thirty miles an hour. With both the easy to read instructions and a good dose of humor style it has been at the top of my list of books all new puppy buyers must have items.

August 29, 2007: I've owned this book for over 20 years. It is (pun intended) dog eared from frequent reference. It's fun to read, over and over. I have always adopted shelter pets with unknown backgrounds but Ms. Benjamin's recommendations work no matter how old the dogs are. Because you're talking to them in their own language, it doesn't matter what bad things they learned from the first people in their lives, they respond to these methods. When you let your dog be who he is, he willingly adapts to your life. I am here at B&N today because I'm buying a new copy to give as a gift - AGAIN!
