      Synopsis

The modular techniques introduced in this knitting guide provide a creative approach perfect for beginners in which rectangular, square, and triangular pieces are used to fashion a sweater or other knitted garment. Step-by-step instructions and simple solutions illustrate the construction procedure. The swatches and sketches provided reveal endless possibilities for mixing color, texture, and shape.

      Library Journal

Modular knitting is the technique of creating small units, such as squares, triangles, or strips, and fashioning them into garments or other knitted objects by piecing them together or joining them as you knit. Horst Schulz first introduced knitters to modular knitting in Patchwork Knitting and New Patchwork Knitting: Fashion for Children, which are more inspirational idea books than pattern books. Now Luters, a well-known knitting seminar instructor and knitwear designer, puts her own twist on modular knitting with this book, which combines instruction with knitting patterns. While Schulz looks at modular knitting with the eye of an artist, Luters adds the organization of a teacher. She first discusses the process of creating with small units and then in successive chapters covers squares and rectangles, right triangles, equilateral and other triangles, mitered squares, strips, patchwork, and bias knitting. Highly recommended for large public libraries. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
