Packed with incredible images and step-by-step techniques, this book is a must have for commercial, wedding, and portrait photographers working on location who want to maximize their time behind the camera and minimize their time spent hauling cumbersome lighting equipment. The tips show how to select easily portable and versatile equipment for location shoots, cutting down on the packing and porting of expensive equipment. With techniques and information on the latest technology—including battery-powered flashes and accessories—this reference shows photographers how to work with smaller and lighter-weight lighting equipment without sacrificing quality. Whether shooting portraits, landscapes, or interiors, whether indoors or out, photographers will embrace the portable approach offered in this valuable resource.
This is a quiet book full of information, but bubbling with the kind of energy that is created when you realize you can do what you thought you couldn't.

April 27, 2009: Minimalist Lighting, by Kirk Tuck, is one of the best books to purchase if you have decided on designing a completely portable studio, or location studio, and need excellent, comprehensive guidance in implementing the concept of a mobile, portable studio. Mr. Tuck is a brilliant mentor for us.
His book is well designed itself, offering relevant information, plenty of clear examples of lighting setups and environmental composition, a thourough compendium of equipment and accessories, and several very good case studies for using the minimalist philosophy to which his book is dedicated. Even though, I found a couple of inconsistencies between the text descriptions of a couple of case studies and the description in the figures, overall I cannot praise Mr. Tuck's effort enough. I found this book just when I had decided use a minimalist's approach, and regard it as a 'Bible'!I recommend this book to any and everyone serious about professional photography and enjoying the unlimited possibilities digital photography offers. April 23, 2009: This book explores a methodology of photography that shuns the big, heavy and expensive lights and gear that used to be part of professional photography and replaces it with small, battery powered flashes and smart techniques. The images are straightforward and wonderfully diagrammed. You could learn the equivalent of a one year college course in photography from this book. I highly recommend it and I carry around a copy for reference all the time.
