      Annotation

Strawberry Shortcake travels around Strawberryland in search of party supplies for Apple Dumplin's birthday.

      Marilyn Courtot - Children's Literature

If you are into sweets, then this sweet little offering is one that might even make the sweetest toothed adult groan a little. Strawberry Shortcake is planning a birthday party for Apple Dumplin. They set out around the town to collect cookies, fruit, juice, party hats and of course a birthday cake. Along the way they have a series of mini adventures and make new friends. If you can ignore the sugar overload and Strawberry's constant use of the word "berry" instead of "very" there are messages encouraging an acceptance of people's differences and encouragement to have adventures and thus learn about the world. The illustrations are equally saccharine with lots of pastels and all the cookies, candies and other sweets that are the stuff of kid's dreams. 2003, Grosset & Dunlop,
