Synopsis

Create a campaign plan based on studies of campaigns in Texas, Michigan, and North Carolina with the simulation, THE MECHANICS OF STATE LEGISLATIVE CAMPAIGNS. You'll do exercises on real-life scenarios or work in small teams to respond or resolve them, enhancing your understanding of political campaigns, organizations, and political behavior.

Biography

John S. Klemanski, Professor and Chair of the Political Science department at Oakland University, received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.P.A. and Ph.D. from Wayne State University. A native of Michigan, he has served as a campaign manager, campaign consultant, and volunteer on numerous state legislative, judicial, and local political campaigns. He has worked as an on-air politics and feature reporter for a Michigan cable TV station and has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, as well as local government commissions and authorities. In 1989-90, he received a Leverhulme Fellowship award to serve as graduate program adviser to Cranfield University, located in Bedfordshire, England. He is the author of over 20 articles and books, mostly on urban development politics and policy.

Dave Dulio is Assistant Professor of Political Science, having received his B.A. from the University of Michigan followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. from American University (which he completed in 2001). Dulio teaches courses in American politics generally, specializing in campaigns and elections, political parties, interest groups, and Congress. His research interests are the electoral process, the professionalism of elections in the United States, and the role of money in elections. He has published books and articles through the Brookings Institute, the State University of New York Press, and the journal Party Politics." During 2001-2002, as part of the American Political Science Association's Congressional Fellowship Program, Dulio worked on Capitol Hill for the U.S. House Republican Conference, headed by then-Congressman J.C. Watts, Jr. of Oklahoma."
