Characters based on James Patterson's international bestsellers When the Wind Blows and The Lake House are re-invented in Maximum Ride and are launched on the ultimate action-packed adventure full of humor and suspense.
Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "Flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time--like when Angel, the youngest member of the "Flock," is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were genetically engineered by sinister scientists. Her friends brave a journey to Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb--now her betrayed and greatest enemy--that her purpose is save the world--but can she?
After the mutant Erasers abduct the youngest member of their group, the "birdkids," who are the result of genetic experimentation, take off in pursuit and find themselves struggling to understand their own origins and purpose.

More Reviews and RecommendationsNot making any bones about his bid for success, James Patterson once declared he wanted to be known as “the king of the page-turners.” While that may seem like a pretty grand ambition, Patterson is as worthy of that title as any author working today.

Ok, so I heard of this book before and always pondered on whether or not to get this book at all! So I went to the bookstore yesterday 'June 28' and started it today after I finished Stephen King's Misry. And am I happy I bought it. I don't know why anyone would say it starts of slow because it doesn't. Right away its very action packed and have never been more happier with a book than this. I may even go and get books #2 and #3 in a couple of days. So go and buy this book- You won't be disappointed and your money is well spent on this title.

I absolutely love the Maximum Ride series. I read all the books twice. I'll probably read them again. His characters are well developed, the story doesnt just drone on and on, and who doesnt like the idea of fun loving bird kids that kick butt? I had seen the series before and thought it was kind of dumb so i never gave it much thought. Then one day after reading a few good reviews about it i thought 'What the heck why not give it a try?' I can honestly say that was one of my best desicions. If you're looking for a love story well thats too bad(there only like 14 and they have an 8 n 6 yr old in the group so wat do u expect?)give it a try anyways. Its action packed and hillarious. I recomend this book to anyone that can handle it. =D Nah but give it a try, i promise you wont be disapointed. If you r, well then u seriously have a problem.
Also recommended: Some of Scott Westerfelds are really good, the twilight series, Private series by Kate Brian, that one has a lot of drama but its really good.
