Synopsis
Maximum Ride and the other members of the Flock have barely recovered from their last arctic adventure, when they are confronted by the most frightening catastrophe yet. The fifth entry in Patterson's all-ages Maximum Ride fantasy/thriller series finds the teenaged title character facing her greatest challenge yet. Max, leading her flock of virtually indestructible part-human/part-bird hybrids, must rescue her human mom, kidnapped by a criminal mastermind with an elaborate plan to wreak worldwide ecological catastrophe. But in order to rescue her, 14-year-old Max and the five younger members of her flock (genetically developed by an environmental group) must team up with the U.S. Navy to determine why millions of fish are dying off the coast of Hawaii. All this, and Max is falling in love, too. Patterson doesn't spend much time on character development, opting to propel his wild story with quick action scenes, plenty of dialogue and chapters seldom longer than three or four pages; unfortunately, though, life-and-death situations are often solved by implausible plot turns. Max narrates with a precocious, snarky voice, but makes it relatively easy to jump into her complicated tale midstream. Not surprisingly, the open-ended conclusion begs for a follow-up; it's also little wonder that a movie franchise is in the works.

December 06, 2009: Maximum Ride (Max) is an amazing book about the flock(Max, iggy, Gazzy, Fang, Nudge, and Angel.) and the world being in grave danger, AGAIN! Someone is attacking the flock, and following them around like stalckers on a friday night. Plus the worst part is that Max's mom gets kidnapped by these same people. so the flock has anther mission( save Max's mom, and stop the new Foes.) As they embark on thier mission they are stuck in a submarine( they hate that and they're in there with the Gasman "Gazzy"), A mysterious creature breaks the Sub. I bet by now you're saying" Whoa I want to read that book!" Because yes this book has everything, action,romance,plus some bird-kids! Will Max save her mom and trillions of innocent people or will they not survive this task? "Well don't just sit there go buy it and find out."

November 29, 2009: After reading the fourth Maximum ride book, the final warning, I was rather disappointed with James Patterson and was hesitant to read the next book. The final warning didn't really go along with the plot of the 3 previous books. After I read max I understood that they had to have some sort of transition book to form the movement of where the plot was head. I enjoyed this book, and that I got to grow and gain experience with Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel, as I got to become one with the flock. I cannot wait for the next book "Fang" to come out.
