    Synopsis

The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life.

John and Jenny were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy—and their life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound steamroller of a Labrador retriever who crashed through screen doors, flung drool on guests, stole women's undergarments, devoured couches and fine jewelry, and was expelled from obedience school. Yet Marley's heart was pure, and he remained a steadfast model of love and devotion for a growing family through pregnancy, birth, heartbreak, and joy, right to the inevitable goodbye.

    Biography

After Philadelphia Inquirer columnist John Grogan wrote a tribute to his beloved pet of twelve years, the overwhelming response of readers prompted him to write the full story of Marley's colorful life. Grogan's heartfelt ode to the canine member of his family has become one of the most talked-about memoirs of the season.

June 22, 2009: I put off reading this book because I had heard somewhere that it was sad. I LOVE dogs and didn't want to read anything sad. But I read a review that said the only sad part was at the end, when Marley dies at a ripe old age. That is one of the sad things about loving a dog, but a perfectly natural one. And I did cry at the end. However, the author, John Grogan, is a WONDERFUL storyteller. He has a way with words that makes you SEE the situation. And there are situations! Marley is a typical rowdy big dog, full of love and exuberance and joy. He is as loveable as any dog I have ever met. John Grogan describes his life with Marley in the most loving and understanding way.. You feel like you are part of the family and are enjoying it immensely. I laughed out loud too many times to count. It was a lighthearted, loving, happy story, and I loved every minute of it. I highly recommend it.

    June 08, 2009: Marley & Me Review

My name is Justin Madar, I go to Holt High School, and I am about 16 almost 17 years of age. This book looked good because I first saw the movie and that was really good so I thought maybe the book was good as well. Author of the Book is John Grogan.

In my English class I am reading a book called Marley & Me. In this book the two main characters are John, Jenny, and of course Marley. John's job and Jenny's job are kind of the same they both Write for a newspaper but they talk about different thing and have different columns. When they were looking for a house the Reactor mentions kids, and John is not ready for a kid so he gets a puppy. But you know what they say never pick the shyest one because they are always the craziest ones. But they picked it any ways and they named it Marley. They go through some rough times with Marley he made their lives miserable but the end he made them happy. They end up having three kids that loved that dog to death more then anything in the whole world. The family moves around from place to place warm to cold trying to find a job that fits their family style but then they do and they all have time to play.

I liked it a lot, I would give this book about four and a half stars out of five. Anyone can read this book as long as they can read. In my opinion every one who loves dogs and has dogs that go crazy and rip up stuff, this is the book for you just to remind you of how much you love your dog and how they will always love you back.
