Synopsis

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed.  In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change.  Not all of those who are chosen do.  It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling.  She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx.  But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.  When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

The Beltane Papers

Marked is one of the best coming of age stories to come out of Oklahoma since S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders. It teaches about the beauty of being a social outcast, friendship, and finding your own inner spirituality.

Annabelle, a teenage Vampire book fanatic., 07/02/2008

While being left in limbo waiting for the 4th book of the Twilight series I had to find another vampire series to satisfy my thirst, pun intended. I had read all the Blue Bloods, Wicked Lovely, and Ink Exchange, all excellent by the way. Then I ventured into books such as Vampire Kisses that left me gagging. So I tried out Marked, and was revived in my faith in vampire books other than Twilight and Blue Bloods. Deffinetly not for anyone under the age of 13, and that is coming from a 17 year old. Marked's dialogue can wane at times and seem juvenile but it wasn't a regular enough of an occurence to make me really get annoyed. Overall Marked is a good solid Vampire novel and I plan to go out today to pick up the rest of the published series.

Also recommended: Twilight(duh), Blue Bloods, Wicked Lovely, Ink Excahnge.

I liked that this book was totally different than any other vampire book i've read, that the humans knew about the vampires and there was a scientific explination for them. I also liked all the rituals and ceremonies for the Godess and the Cherokee ceremonies. They sounded really cool. But what I didn't like was the main characters attitude towards some things. Like how she considered people that make out in public sluts. That isn't slutty.

Also recommended: I love anything by Sarah Dessen, especially Just Listen, all the Harry Potter books, Wicked Lovely, Becoming Chloe, and The Unseen
