    Synopsis

Enter the dark, magical world of The House of Night, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird has just been Marked as a fledgling vampyre and joins the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change--and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint her human ex-boyfriend. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

    The Beltane Papers

Marked is one of the best coming of age stories to come out of Oklahoma since S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders. It teaches about the beauty of being a social outcast, friendship, and finding your own inner spirituality.

November 05, 2009: I highly recommend this series. I have to say that I have been really hooked to this genre of books since first reading Twilight. I really really like vampires and the paranormal. Since reading Twilight I have followed up the Sookie Stackhouse series and Anita Blake series. I have to say I was not going to give the teen series another shot after reading those. But I purchased the first book to this series because of the price on E-reader and i needed something to read :). I have to say I don't regret it, I love the characters, the story, and the different take on becoming a vampire. I laughed, I cried, and i could relate to the teenage banter and I haven't been in high school in over ten years. I loved the slang and the plays the play with words it was a quick read but I am hooked. I hope to enjoy the rest of the series and more to come.
