January 18, 2009: What can I say? The story of Madeline City is a fantastic adventure, leaving room for emotion but never overly mushy. The protagonist is a tough but deep man: a reluctant hero who never lets us down. Supporting characters are well-developed, and each has a seperate goal; it is through their common interests that they are brought together and thrust against the greatest power of their time: Augsburg Church. The religious and political references are purely fictional and not likely to offend, but they are deeply necessary to the story and they add to the already impressive world of Tydus, Wilfredo, Fost et al. The setting is beautifully depressing, which will only encourage the reader to cheer on his or her favorite character in the hope of an improbable - but not impossible - happily ever after. The rabble of unlikely warriors unite against a world so cruel and cold that your tauntaun will freeze before you reach the first marker.

I Also Recommend: Fahrenheit 451, Branchwater, The Last Battle (Chronicles of Narnia Series #7).
