    Synopsis

This story marks a return to the reverence of Mary, the mother of Jesus, at a time when the United States Catholic Church and its baby boomers followers de-emphasized the Virgin Mother's role in the Christian faith. Written by a one-time atheist, Looking for Mary speaks to women who are looking for answers in an age where spirituality and motherhood are too often viewed as setbacks.

Having began as a radio documentary for NPR, Looking for Mary is well-suited as an audiobook. This unabridged book is narrated by Christina Moore across four cassette tapes in seven hours.

    Elle Magazine

Candid, entertaining, and abundantly enlightening, Looking for Mary sizzles with the fervor of the seekers and the sought-after, and delivers between its cover a sweet and salty miracle.

May 11, 2001: Baby boomers and lapsed Catholics may particularly appreciate this book...but it holds truths for readers of all ages and religious persuasions. Beverly Donofrio is a highly educated, successful and pretty hip (by today's barometer) middle aged woman who shares some very painful life experiences in order to explain how and why the Blessed Mother healed her and changed her life. I admire the author's candor as well as her courage to bring us this wonderful memoir...I sobbed many times while reading this book. I am already a very spiritual person but learned much from this story. It also confirmed some things for me about the Blessed Virgin Mary...that there are some spiritual and temporal issues that our Heavenly Mother is best to intercede on our behalf and provide us comfort.
