Synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries
comes the fourth book in her dazzling and sensual School
for Heiresses series -- the story of a charmingly handsome rake who challenges
everything a young teacher thinks she
knows about passion and desire.

"Don't let yourself be fooled, Madeline:
once a rake, always a rake
."
-- Mrs. Charlotte Harris, headmistress When Madeline Prescott took a teaching position at Mrs. Harris's School for Young Ladies, it was to help restore her father's reputation. Instead, she's in danger of ruining her own. The devilishly handsome Anthony Dalton, Viscount Norcourt, has agreed to provide "rake lessons" to Mrs. Harris's pupils so they can learn how to avoid unscrupulous gentlemen, and Madeline is to oversee his classes. She has always believed that attraction is a scientific matter, easily classified and controlled -- until she's swept into the passionate desire that fiercely burns between her and Anthony. Nothing could be more illogical than risking everything for a dalliance with a rake -- even one who's trying to behave himself. Yet nothing could be more tempting....

Shocked but intrigued when the scientifically inclined schoolmarm Madeline Prescott asks him to give rakehell-avoidance lessons to the young heiresses at the school in which he wants to enroll his orphaned niece, Anthony Dalton, the notorious Viscount Norcourt, reluctantly agrees, only to find himself irritated by and attracted to a forthright young woman who isn't about to fall victim to his seductive charms. Scandal, gossip, greed, and old enmities spice up the pot in this fast-paced, sexy romp that bubbles over with Jeffries's (Beware a Scot's Revenge) trademark humor and spirit, as an unconventional heroine on a mission to redeem her father's reputation and a hero with goals of his own find love where they least expect it. Sparkling dialog, stirring sexual chemistry, and an engrossing story are bonuses in the fourth installment in the author's "School for Heiresses" series. Jeffries lives in North Carolina.

Biography

By the time Sabrina Jeffries was eighteen, she'd eaten chicken heads and jellyfish, been chased by a baby elephant, seen countless cobras and pythons, had the entire series of rabies shots, and visited rain forests and rubber plantations. But that wasn't enough excitement for her; to escape her mundane life as a missionary's daughter, she read romance novels.

Now she writes romance novels, and her bestselling, award-winning tales of strong women and sexy, dangerous men have been translated all over the world. Although she now lives in North Carolina with her husband and son, her colorful life has given her plenty of inspiration for more novels. She is currently working on the third book in The Royal Brotherhood Series.

February 21, 2008: Madeline Prescott is upset that her beloved father has become the laughing stock of the medical profession because he believes the use of nitrous oxide will relieve some of the pain of surgery. His daughter seeks a reputable scientist to prove her dad is correct. To achieve her goal she accepts a teaching position at Mrs. Harris's School for Young Ladies.------- She also is realistic enough to know that society will ignore her as a mere female so she needs male assistance to achieve her objective. She asks Lord Anthony Dalton for his help he agrees as he is fascinated by the female ?scientist?. Madeline persuades Mrs. Harris to allow Anthony to teach a session on how to avoid a rake, but although she audits the class, she flunks as she is unscientifically attracted to him. To his amazement he reciprocates her feelings.------- The School for Heiresses Regencies are consistently some of the best historicals on the market today (see ONLY A DUKE WILL DO and NEVER SEDUCE A SCOUNDREL). Although in many ways the lead couples are similar, Sabrina Jeffries finds a way to refresh them for instance in this case the medical science angle. Thus readers obtain an entertaining battle of the sexes between a pleasure loving huggable male and a scientific minded beautiful woman.------------ Harriet Klausner
