June 19, 2008: My 3 yr. old granddaughter and I have read this using a flashlight before she goes to sleep. Leo has a light which he gains confidence when he learns how to use it. We wind down the evening as Leo is told to turn off his lightning bug light when he goes to sleep at night. My granddaughter then happily turns out her flashlight and goes right to sleep like Leo. Then she will be rested and ready to face the day lighting up the world and having fun like the lightning bugs in the story. This is her favorite book and we have read it every night for 1 1/2 years eventhough she has many books.
