      Synopsis

From two therapists who specialize in treating kids with social skills problems comes this one-of-a-kind workbook. Knowing Yourself, Knowing Others helps children with Asperger's disorder, nonverbal learning disorder, and other social development problems learn essential social skills. These include recognizing feelings in others, understanding others' intentions, friendship-building skills, avoiding emotional overload, being flexible, and learning how and why different behaviors are appropriate for different settings. To make it easier, the book includes a handy visual key that allows readers to quickly identify the five different types of activities in the book: communication tools, investigative tools, visual tools, learning tools, and activities that require adult assistance. Conditions like autism, Asperger's disorder, and nonverbal learning disorder are on the rise in the US. This book addresses one of the most challenging aspects of these disorders and gives children the help they need to build the social networks that are central to human life.
