      Synopsis

Learn to pamper friends and loved ones with lavish and fun knitted gifts. Projects are broken down into four different categories by style and include hats, mittens, purses, wraps, tops, sweaters, and socks—all of which are simple to make and require minimal yarn. Tips are provided for embellishing each project with different fabrics, edgings, and stitching patterns, making personalization easy, even for novices. Beautiful photographs and color illustrations detailing how to create each piece, as well as contemporary designs and small, quick projects make this guide a must-have for the gift-giving knitter.

      KLIATT

      AGERANGE: Ages 15 to adult.

Knitting has become a hobby for young stylish people and this book will appeal to the fashion conscious of any age who love to knit. It is beautifully photographed and filled with small projects, most of which are for intermediate to experienced knitters. The chapters are titled “Eclectic and Quirky,” “Textured and Modern,” “Pretty and Feminine,” and “Traditional and Folk”; and all require a certain flair to wear and skill to knit as even the simplest designs have fancy edgings or employ embroidery or other embellishment techniques. Some of the projects, such as the Tabard, are very advanced. Other designs, like the Wrap, which buttons over the tops of the arms, will appeal to a limited few who want a “modern, almost futuristic feel.” The project directions seem clear and easy to follow. The introduction, yarn information, abbreviations, techniques and glossary are well written and will be useful to a less-than-expert knitter, and all are written in a personal style that makes the reader feel like part of an exclusive club of fashionable knitters. Although the recommended yarn is all from the line sold by the author, she also indicates the generic size, type and fiber content so other yarns can be substituted. Reviewer: Nola Theiss
