In the third book of the Inda quartet, Inda, on the verge of adulthood, is at last coming home. His best friend from his academy days, E vred, is now king. But instead of befriending and welcoming Inda, he puts him in charge of defending the kingdom. In saving his homeland from attack, Inda must prove himself-or lose everything he holds dear.
The world creation and characterization within Inda have the complexity and depth and inventiveness that mark a first-rate fantasy novel... This is the mark of a major work of fiction...you owe it to yourself to read Inda.

January 04, 2009: It's been a long time since I could read 3 books as long as this series, but not only does Sherwood Smith keep you guessing at every turn, she writes in a way that leaves you staying up at night doing nothing but thinking about the characters and how you would react if you were them. This is the first time in a very long time that i read a book this big in three days or less for each, HIGHLY recommended, this is definitely a series worth reading more than once...

September 06, 2008: This series was my first introduction to Sherwood Smith. So far, it is a gratifying experience. Many authors aren't able to sustain the reader's interest through an entire series. That isn't the case here. Ms. Smith has created a complex world with original (to me) social customs and it all works. What I like best is the complicated plot where no one is safe and where I haven't any idea of how it is going to turn out though I can see some unpleasant possibilities.
