    Annotation

Now in paperback, Killing Mister Watson is the bestselling novel proclaimed by critics throughout the country as Peter Matthiessen's masterpiece. Drawn from fragments of historical fact, it brilliantly depicts the fortunes of Edgar J. Watson, a real-life entrpreneur and outlaw who appeared in the lawless Florida Everglades around the turn of the century.

    Publishers Weekly

Numerous acquaintances of the leg endary Edgar J. Watson, said to have gunned down the outlaw Belle Starr, are given voice in a fictionalized oral history set in the Florida Everglades. PW called this ``an imaginative and haunting evocation of a time and place, and the paradox of the tenderness and brutality with which real and imagined lives are filled.'' Ten tales about people trapped in futile behavior patterns comprise On the River Styx: ``In limpid, lyrical prose, these dazzling stories ob jectively explore the lack of communi cation between husbands and wives, between races and cultures.'' June 13, 2009: A great book to read if you are visiting Southwest Florida, particularly Everglades City and Chockoloskee. A true story of the hard life in this part of the world. It is told from many different people's perspectives. The story of Edgar Watson, a bad man. This is the first in series of 4 books by Peter Matthiesen, about this man. The next one is told from the point of view of Mr. Watson's grandson, then from Mr. Watson's pont of view.

I Also Recommend: Lost Man's River, Shadow Country, Totch.
