Synopsis

Junie B. is quite excited for her friend Lucille's sleepover party. But with all the rules she must follow, the party is sounding duller and duller. Surely Junie B. will find a way to make things interesting....

Annotation

After hearing from a classmate at kindergarten that people have monsters under their beds, Junie B. Jones is afraid to go to sleep that night.

School Library Journal

K-Gr 2In this early chapter book, Junie, a boisterous, effervescent kindergartner, and her friend Grace invite themselves over to the home of Lucille's wealthy grandmother, with whom the girl and her family live. They agree to help Lucille beg her "richie nanna" for a poodle. Once there, the girls find that everything in the house is exquisiteand untouchable. Lucille's bedspread is silk and her huge stuffed animals cost a fortune. Junie accidentally drops a crystal glass, which shatters into pieces. Her hot dog slides off her fork onto a white Irish linen table cloth. The friends have a good time but Junie is glad to go home to her own nanna's house where she can drink out of a plastic glass and not have to worry about breaking anything. Appealing black-and-white line-and-wash drawings extend the humorous situations. While parts of the story are funny and ring true, Junie's babyish, immature grammar will quickly wear thin.Janet M. July 31, 2008: This is a fantastic book. My daughter and I just got done reading it together. We laughed and laughed until our sides hurt. Even though it is not grammatically correct, it is written like Junie B herself is the one talking, so that makes it fun for the kids. I highly recommend the entire Junie B. series for your young readers. I know that mine sure does LOVE it.

September 12, 2003: This book is the greatest. It even helped us with a little monster under the bed problem of our own. Out of the many book series that we have read, Junie B. books are everyones favorite (especially mine). I had the hardest time reading this book to my kids. I can't remember when we laughed so hard and so much. Thank you Junie B. We love you.
