    Synopsis

In this stunning retelling of a phenomenal classic, honor is tested, battles of good over evil are waged, and the importance of family reigns supreme. True to Rudyard Kipling's original story, tree branches literally draw the reader in to this tale of Mowgli the Man Cub exploring the ruins of the Lost City, riding atop thundering elephants, and facing a fierce tiger attack! A must-have for every family's library, this epic pop-up adventure features paper engineering as intricate and magical as the very laws of the jungle.

    Children's Literature

For people who treasure pop-up books and collect them this book is a must-have. In addition to the six major paper constructions rising from the center of their double-page spreads, there are eighteen additional pop-ups under flaps on the sides of the pages. Some of these paper creations are so large they require as many as ten layers of paper and rise as high as 15" from the page and extend to 15" wide. However it must be said that at 7" wide by 10" high by 3" deep this remarkable work of paper engineering completely overwhelms the original story by Rudyard Kipling. For very young children, and this story was never intended for the very young, there are too many images, too many overworked colors, and too much frustration getting some of the pops folded back into the book. The recommended "for ages 3 and up" guide on the back cover is misleading in the extreme. On the other hand this outstanding work of paper sculpture is sure to appeal to many older children and adults. Part of Little Simon's "Classic Collectible Pop-Up" series.

    A disappointing acheivment.by Anonymous

November 24, 2008: Reinhart has worked with Sabuda in the past, on some of the most amazing books. This book simple does not live up to the standards set in the past. The Pop ups were less sturdy than prior. One of the pages stopped working after one viewing. This book will not hold up to the usual amount of enjoyment. There was not the big "wow" page. The smaller pages were much more simple than usual. The art was also lacking much of the depth of color, texture, and detail we have come to expect.
If this is your first pop up by this author, you will be pleased. If you are a fan of this author, this is a disappointingly average

I Also Recommend: Castle (Sabuda & Reinhart Present Series), Robert Sabuda's The Night Before Christmas, America the Beautiful, Dinosaurs (Encyclopedia Prehistorica Series), Sharks and Other Sea Monsters (Encyclopedia Prehistorica Series).
