August 04, 2008: Wonderful and handy little book (emphasis on the little however) for a wonderful price. Excellent reference on many subjects but don't expect much in-depth explanations. In other words, it's not a textbook but makes for a great reference.

April 10, 2008: This is the first grammar book I've come across that you can actually read and study in an uncomplicated manner. It's quick and simple - which is how you should explain grammar. ---- It is so easy to read, which makes understanding easier as well. There is linguistic jargon but in difference to most other grammar books the jargon is actually explained first in a 'normal' manner. --- It uses the contrast between Japanese and English grammar in a very effective way, illustrating first the English version on the grammatical concept and then the Japanese version. To me, illustrating this difference between them helped me understand more closely how to think in Japanese. --- Don't expect to build up a large vocabulary from such a small book, because that is not its purpose. ---This is a crucial book for beginners. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on an expensive book on Japanese grammar, its not the appearance of a book that defines its usefulness but whether it serves its function well, and this small cheap book does it bigtime.
