A LATER CLASSIC FROM AMERICA'S PREMIER FICTION WRITER First published in 1970, nine years after Hemingway's death, this is the story of an artist and adventurer -- a man much like Hemingway himself.
More Reviews and RecommendationsThe winner of the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature, Ernest Hemingway is one of the true giants of modern American literature. Hemingway's punchy, pared-down style and ability to zero in on the perfect characterizing detail of a person or scene has influenced every serious novelist of the second half of the 20th century. Everyone reads him at one time or another.

October 30, 2009: the book is not as good as I thought it would be. But there are some good parts in the story and I would not recommend reading Islands in the Stream but you could if you want to.

October 22, 2009: "Islands in the Stream" is the story of how a man deals with a devastating loss. Though the main character is very masculine and tough, Hemingway reveals his sensitivity through his actions, words, and most important, by what he leaves unsaid. This book touched my heart.
