    Synopsis

Real love is not addiction, nor is addiction love. But for many, these two experiences come together, resulting in tremendous pain and suffering. Through two previous editions, Is It Love or Is It Addiction? has helped countless people find their way from the trials and confusion of addictive love to the fulfillment of whole and healthy relationships. As psychotherapist Brenda Schaeffer reveals, we can begin to work through relationship difficulties with compassion and lasting effect by increasing our awareness of the ways that we express love.

In this expanded third edition, Schaeffer draws on years of feedback and new developments to foster an understanding of love addiction: what it is and what it is not, how to identify it, and, even more important, how to get out of it. Stories of real individuals struggling to develop sound relationships illustrate the characteristics of healthy love and help readers to free themselves to live life more abundantly. Included is the most up-to-date information about the biological basis of addictive behaviors and the impact of technology, sexual addiction, and relationship addiction on intimate relationships. The author also explores the influence of past abuse and trauma on the predisposition to love addiction.

    Annotation

March 28, 2005: This is a fantastic book. I am very demanding and skeptical when it comes to that kind of material and I looked everywhere before deciding to purchase this book. I was not disappointed! This book has been tremendously helpful to me. I have read it twice already and my boyfriend bought it too. If you are concerned about your relationships and feel 'addicted' to them, if you fear loneliness and separation and want to understand why --this is the book for you. It explains very clearly what is addictive love and what is healthy love, why we sometimes suffer from love addiction and what to do to overcome it.

January 02, 2001: I read this book to discover why I always seemed to have problems in relationships. It was because I needed to change. I needed to firgure out what I wanted not what my partner wanted. This book helped me do that with insightful advice and excercises at the end of the book to put them into practice. You can not expect to stay the same after reading this book. Don't let it scare you.
