Fire alone can save our Clan...
For generations, four Clans of wild cats have shared the forest according to the laws laid down by the powerful ancestors. But the warrior code is threatened, and the ThunderClan cats are in grave danger. The sinister ShadowClan grows stronger every day. Noble warriors are dying and some deaths are more mysterious than others.
In the midst of this turmoil appears an ordinary housecat named Rusty . . . Who may yet turn out to be the bravest warrior of them all.
In the first exciting installment of the Warriors fantasy series, debut novelist Hunter creates a cat world shared by four tribal clans, drawing on the habits of feral animals and also inserting valuable themes regarding family, friendship and responsibility. Rusty, a young tomcat, forsakes the soft world of the "Twolegs" for the riskier life of the wildcat clans that rule in the woods, beyond the Twolegplace. When Rusty tries to snare a mouse in what proves to be ThunderClan territory, he meets Bluestar, the leader of the Clan, who invites him to learn "what it is to be a real cat. The strength and the fellowship of the Clan will always be with you, even when you hunt alone." Becoming "Firepaw," a warrior-cat-in-training, the once pampered pet adapts quickly to the tribal rules, bonds with his fellow apprentices and with the old she-cat Yellowfang, who is on the run from ShadowClan. When the merciless leader of ShadowClan drives out WindClan and demands to share ShadowClan's hunting territories, the stage is set for more action-packed adventure. (The second Warriors novel, Fire and Ice, is due out in June.) Certain to please any young reader who has ever wondered what dreams of grandeur may haunt the family cat. Ages 10-up. (Jan.)

June 20, 2009: My daughter assured me she did not like to read, but we kept looking until she found books she could fall in love with. The Warrior books have been those books. She's reading her 13th one, now. My son has enjoyed them as much as his sister, and I pick them up from time to time, too. I like them as much as the children do!

June 01, 2009: The warriors series is by far the best I've read, which really means a lot coming from a massive Lord of the Rings fan. The story plot is totally exciting and very facinating, and it's written exceptionally well. The Erin Hunters have taken a rather small, basic idea and turned it into a huge, neverending series, to the point where readers have the books finished in a matter of hours and are already counting down for the next book. In this book, they chose an excellent way to explain the ways of the Clan by introducing a newcomer. I love how there's no messing around before the cats face real danger and excitement; there's none of that 'boring beginning' stuff that so often occurs in other books, if only to just paint a picture of the surroundings. The writers have done just that in a way that makes it exciting to read. The massive web of characters can be a little overwhelming at first, and has the potential to discourage readers, but the way that every cat has something going on and some sort of secret makes it entirely worth reading. I hope everyone givest these books a chance; you'll honestly be glad you did. You hardly even need to be a cat fan (or even an animal person) to enjoy these, they're so great! I reccomend it to everyone who's looking for a good adventure story to read. There is, in all honesty, no flaw in the way the books are written- it's exciting, descriptive, and not confusing in the slightest, even when the goings-on are. When I picked up this book at Barnes and Noble, I thought I would hate it, and now I can't imagine life without Warriors. Don't pass it by just because 'Oh, I'm not a cat person' or 'I'm more into realistic fiction' or something like that- you'll be sorry you did. A great book for all readers- just read it!
