    Synopsis

No one was closer to Michael Jackson at the height of his creative powers than Bruce Swedien, the five-time Grammy winner who, with Jackson and producer Quincy Jones, formed the trio responsible for the sound of Jackson's records - records that topped the charts and shook the world. Friend, co-creator, and colleague, Bruce Swedien was a seasoned recording engineer-plucked from a job at legendary Universal Audio in Chicago - when he began working with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones on the soundtrack to The Wiz, and he was the master technician who gave the records their sound as the trio progressed to Jackson's greatest triumphs, Off the Wall and the iconic, history-making Thriller, which revolutionized music and video and fixed Jackson in culture as the King of Pop. In the Studio with Michael Jackson is the chronicle of those times, when everything was about the music, the magic, and the amazing talent of a man who changed the face of pop music - and culture - forever. In his laid-back style, Bruce Swedien offers anecdotes about being part of Quincy Jones' extended "family" and reveals the technical details of creating Michael Jackson's biggest-selling albums, as well as Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory. Including over 100 photos, In the Studio with Michael Jackson provides an insider's look that will thrill anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of hit making and the history of some of America's most influential music.

October 26, 2009: This book is a very detailed book that one familiar with the technical aspects of recording would enjoy, but it is not for the average fan. Michael Jackson is, of couse, mentioned in the book, but the anecdotes about him are in the context of creating studio recordings.

A great book that highlights Michael Jackson as a musician and Bruce Swedien's expertise in the studby Anonymous

September 09, 2009: If you ever wanted to know how Michael Jackson really was in the studio I recommend that you read this book. Michael was not just an entertainer - he was a hard working man who was hands-on in the studio as well. This book provides a window into his extraordinary talent, creativity, professionalalism, politeness, generosity, humor and extreme sensitivity. Bruce Swedien and others give personal accounts of some of their experiences while working with Michael. I read this book in 2 days! In the second part of this book Mr. Swedien focuses more on the mechanics of music engineering when he graciously shares details to engineering his masterful work, his accomplishments and career over the years - this part of the book is best for those who want to learn about recording and producing music in the quality of Bruce Swedien and others whom he has worked with. The first half of this book is more about Micheal Jackson. All in all, this book is a keeper for MJ fans, music lovers and music studio technicians who want to learn from Bruce Swedien.

I Also Recommend: We Are the World: The Story Behind the Song, Michael Jackson: The One, Off the Wall [Bonus Tracks], The Ultimate Collection [Sony/Epic], Thriller [25th Anniversary Edition].
