Synopsis

A novel on mental illness, narrated by a man whose twin brother, a schizophrenic, amputates his hand as atonement for his sins. The novel describes the family abuse that led to the illness and the narrator's efforts to obtain the brother's release from an asylum. Synopsis copyright Fiction Digest

The New York Times Book Review - Karen Karbo

I Know This Much is True never grapples with anything less than life's biggest questions....a modern-day Dostoyevsky with a pop sensibility. In his view, it's not just the present that's the pits...it's also the ghosts of dysfunctional family members and your non-relationship with a mocking, sadistic God, whom you still turn to in times of trouble -- which is all the time.

Biography

Wally Lamb's books are neither short nor simple; but like a James Patterson of emotions, he pulls readers in and doesn't let go. His affecting novels She's Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True are marvels of imagination and empathy.

September 14, 2008: I have to admit when i picked up this book, I was a little intimidated. But from the very first page i was hooked. I do have to say that the ending started to get a little slow the last 200 pages or so but not enough to make me stop reading. Recommended definitely.
